Insects, spiders and other mini beasts are everywhere, including your back garden and local park. It is good to observe these creatures to learn more about their behaviors, diets and much more. It will be a bit tricky to observe bugs without anything to put them in, so you can make your very own bug catcher just following these instructions.
- Find a glass or plastic jar. Make sure it is see-through or you will not be able to look at the creatures you capture inside it.
- If there is no lid on your jar, do not worry. Use some aluminum foil to wrap over the mouth of your jar.
- Look for a bug.
- Try to capture the bug in the jar. Do not be sad if you cannot capture the bug; there must be many more around! Now, be COMPLETELY SURE THAT YOU ARE NOT HURTING THE BUG AS YOU ARE CAPTURING IT!
- You can now study the bug you have captured. Try to figure out what type of bug you have captured. Have you seen it before, or have you not? Search up your bug on the internet. What does it eat? What is its lifespan? If you wish, take a photograph of your bug and send it to us via email. We will put it in the ‘Hall of Fame’.
- This is the most important step: RELEASE YOUR BUG! Otherwise it will die.
